Even though I actually have two sisters, the Sister Series is in honor of the veritable army of strong, creative and supportive women that are my sisters in so many ways. The camaraderie, connection and caring is portrayed in the name of each painting as the one outstanding character quality that makes these wonderful people so unique and appreciated. Growing up, and again as a parent I spent uncountable hours on the water and in the woods which has instilled my intrigue and appreciation for the powers of the horizon that is either depicted or suggested in all of my work. Peace of mind and emotional stability are dependent on balance and equilibrium governed by our continuous reference to the horizon. Hence, the sense of serenity viewers remark upon, the connection and connotations of pleasant memories of places I’ve never experienced is much harder to explain yet I am delighted to be part of peoples fondly remembered enjoyment and with my Sister Series, I get to share my own. – Alison Haley Paul
