My work represents so many of my travels, adventures, and dreams. The visual memories of the soft golds of dried grasses and wheatfields along the road, the rich browns of bark and weathered barns, the cool deep blues of the ocean on a windy day and the glowing sky at dusk, the greeny greys of lichen, moss and eucalyptus, the quiet taupes and lavenders of the morning doves on my back fence.
Our lives are paths; we rise every morning to look at the sky, gaze at the horizon, and skip down the road each day. Our adventures, accomplishments and events are merely footsteps; our mistakes and failures are only dance steps backwards or sideways. As human animals, we constantly take stock of our surroundings to reset our equilibrium. The horizons on my canvases are the focal points for that purpose.
PAINTING MEDIUM – oil, wax, charcoal, pigment and graphite on canvas. Chalk or charcoal is used for the initial sketch – the armature of the painting. Graphite is used as the final layer once the painting is mostly dry, to add dimension, perspective and focus to the surface of the painting.
CANVAS – all canvases are custom made and almost any size is available. Each canvas is made with premium clear wood stretcher bars, wired, taped, and primed with a custom dark charcoal gesso.
FINAL TOUCHES – paintings are signed front and back. The back also includes title, size, medium, and is stamped with a small “Thank You” (as I feel very lucky to do what I do).
