Inspiration

An artist needs to be open to inspiration in any and all forms. I find ideas in the strangest places, driving down the freeway and glancing over at the color of the hillsides, reading the news about global climate change, and wondering how the atmosphere might affect the colors we perceive, or to something as simple as the egg and feather colors from the chickens in my backyard coop. I’m very visually distracted yet I’m always looking for the next painting, so to speak. I take hundreds of photographs and combine these photo studies and sketches to achieve the armature and color nuance for each painting. – Alison Haley Paul
